Buenos Aires

Nach 14 Stunden Flug gut angekommen. Habe auf dem Weg zum Flughafen mein Handy in Paulis Auto liegengelassen und so für etwas Spannung gesorgt. „Wie rufe ich jemanden an, wenn seine Nummer nur in meinem Handy gespeichert ist?“ Bei Lufthansa Telefonnummer aus dem Internet bekommen (die Schöpflins haben noch Festnetzanschluss) und dann tatsächlich Telefonzelle am Flughafen München gefunden. Pauli hat es dann rechtzeitig geschafft und ich auch!

Fazit: werde Liste mit Nummern erstellen, in cloud speichern und ausdrucken.

In Buenos Aires habe ich festgestellt, dass mein Gürtel noch bei der Sicherheitskontrolle in Frankfurt liegt. Habe jetzt schönen, handverzierten für 6€ und darüber hinaus beschlossen, eine Liste mit Verlusten zu machen, erster Eintrag:

Ansonsten lässt sich Buenos Aires sehr gut an, fühle mich sofort wohl hier. Vom Flughafen mit tienda leon bus zum Sammeltaxi und zum Hotel für 10€  – unschlagbar! Hotel schlicht aber sauber und gleich neben der Plaza de Mayo im Zentrum gelegen.

Da am Sonntag alle Banken geschlossen sind, schickte mich das Hotelpersonal zum Geldwechseln zu den Strassenhändlern in der Ave Florida. Welch eine Überraschung: der Händler händigt dir zuerst die argentinischen Pesos aus, dann – nachdem du geprüft hast – zahlst du:  in Euro oder Dollar. Mein erster Strassenhändler mit Visitenkarte !!!

Da ich sehr früh am Morgen angekommen bin, verbrachte ich die Zeit bis zum Hotelcheckin im „Hop on hop off Bus“ und habe so den Touristenteil hinter mich gebracht. Jetzt habe ich ein Metroticket und bewege mich wie ein „Porteño“, zumindest fast.

Buenos Aires ist sauber und es herrscht wenig Autoverkehr, mal sehen wie das werktags ist.

Reisen ist so einfach geworden: es gibt eine Ubahn Buenos Aires app, die sagst dir wo du hin willst und die führt dich hin, aber man darf sein Handy (=Hirn) nicht verlieren.

Schnell noch mal Golfstunde eingelegt für 10€, (sehr schwierig Schläger für Linkshänder zu bekommen) ansonsten kann ich nicht allzuviel machen, da alle meine Sportsachen im Camper sind, und der („die“ Emmazwo) schippert noch über den Atlantik.

Da mein Arbeitgeber wahrscheinlich Telefon nicht über den Oktober hinaus bezahlt, besitze ich nun eine argentinische Simkarte, ich brauche „Telefoninternet“ hauptsächlich zum Navigieren. Es wird sich herausstellen, ob ich in den anderen Ländern Internet am Handy

brauche, habe ja dann TomTom und es gibt viele HotSpots.

Erwerb und Aufladen der Karte in Spanisch war mein erster harter Sprachtest. Wie der Argentinier sagt: mucho papeles.

Beim Umsteigen im Bus ist mir eine Wasserflasche aus dem Rucksack gefallen, ich wurde erst nachdem der Bus wieder losgefahren ist von anderen Passagieren darauf aufmerksam gemacht, immer dasselbe mit diesem Rucksack! Einfach für Diebe und man vergisst oft, ihn zu schließen.Es hätte auch Handy oder Ipad sein können, daher wird dieser Rucksack Südamerika nicht mehr verlassen, (zumindest nicht mit mir), er wird  – wie der Neoprenanzug – bei Gelegenheit verschenkt. Habe jetzt Thule Rucksack für 100€

 

Dann war ich noch bei meinem Spediteur. Alles ist bestens, er konnte zwar keine Kopien vom Pass machen, aber scannen und drucken(??!!) auch die 45 USD für den Kurier war kein Thema mehr, ein Fehler, aber der von MOL. Alles gut, keine extra Kosten und ich wäre ja ein guter Kunde…

Freitag in Zarate neuer Termin, und dann hoffentlich bekomme ich den Camper.

Mittlerweile habe ich genug von Buenos Aires, es ist einfach eine weitere Großstadt, allerdings recht angenehm. Gestern noch Besuch der Cementerio de la Recoleta, auch am Mausoleum von Evita Perro gewesen. Hier liegt sich nobel, siehe Bilder. In Buenos Aires läuft gerade die Jugend Olympiade 2018, war beim Turmspringen. Deutschland 2., Österreich nicht vertreten.

After a tedious 14 hour flight to Buenos Aires, I’ve arrived safe and well. 

Just before takeoff, I realised that I had left my phone in Pauli’s car which added some unnecessary stress and suspense. How am I supposed to call someone whose number is saved in my phone, which they have? I managed to find the landline number on the internet while sitting in the Lufthansa Lounge, (Schöpflins still have a landline) and I actually found a payphone at Munich Airport. Thank you Pauli for driving me to the airport and then coming all the way back to bring me my phone!

Conclusion: Make a list of all necessary numbers, safe it on iCloud and print it out.

I realised, only in Buenos Aires, that my belt was still lying by the airport security in Frankfurt…

Now I’ve got a nice new, handmade/hand-decorated one, that only cost me 6€, and with this I decided to start a list of all the things I loose on this trip.

First entry: 

• Belt, October 14th, Frankfurt Main

Other than that, Buenos Aires is treating me well, I immediately felt good here. From the Airport, I took a Tienda Leon bus and after that a Taxi to the hotel which, all in all, cost 10€ . The hotel is very simple but clean and right next to Plaza De Mayo, very central to Buenos Aires. 

Since all banks are closed on a Sunday, the hotel sent me to a street vendor to exchange my money. To be smart, you get the money from the vendor first, double check the amount and then pay them out in euros or dollars, just to ensure that its fair trade (my first vendor even exchanged me a business card to ensure future business)

Since I arrived quite early, I spent my time before check-in on the Hop-on Hop-off bus to get the touristing part of my stay, out of the way. Now I have a metro card and I’m running around the city like a local, at least almost like a local. Buenos Aires is relatively clean and there isn’t much commotion on the roads, lets see how this is during the week.

Travelling has gotten very easy, thanks to new technology. There is now a Subway Buenos Aires app that lets you know how to efficiently get to places. The only problem with this is that you cannot loose your phone, or in my case, your brain. 

I booked a quick golf session (it’s very hard to find a left handed gold club), other than that, theres not much else I can do around here since all my sport stuff is in the camper.

Seeing as my company will not be paying my phone for a while, I have an Argentinien sim card. I mostly need internet for navigation purposes. I don’t know if I’ll be needing internet in the other countries seeing as I have my TomTom, and there’s always an abundance of Hotspots.

Purchasing and filling up of the card was all done in Spanish, the first big test. As the Spanish say, mucho papeles

Whilst changing buses, my water bottle fell out of my backpack and this was only brought to my attention after the bus had left by other passengers. It’s not the first time with this backpack and I’m lucky it was just my bottle and not the iPad or cellphone. This backpack will never leave South America(at least not with me), the same with my wetsuit, gifting it to someone who might need it.

This is the reason why I bought myself a new, trustworthy Thule backpack for 100€.

I went back to my shipping agency, everything is good but they couldn’t make any copies of the passport but he could scan and print (?!?!) The 45 Dollar for the courier was forgotten about, a mistake made by MOL. Everything seemed okay on their end, no extra cost for me and and I was approved a good client…

Appointment on Friday in Zarate to sort out Emmazwo, hopefully I get her soon.

For now, I’m ready to leave Buenos Aires, a huge city with lots to do but I’ve done enough. Yesterday I still visited Cementerio de la Recoleta, and at the Mausoleum of Evita Perro.

The Youth Olympic Games 2018 is currently on going in Buenos Aires, and I watched the high diving. Germany game 2nd, Austria didn’t even take part.

Adios Buenos Aires, I want to drive with Emmazwo now.

Beim letzten Abendessen mit Kollegen und meinem Chef kam die Frage über meine Erwartungen an diese Reise auf. Hier meine Liste:

• Kiten
• Kiten mit Hydrofoil
• Surfen
• Waken – hat aber geringe Priorität, nur um in Training zu bleiben
• Golf: so oft wie möglich, bin jetzt ehrgeizig
• Yoga
• Gesunde Ernährung, Gewicht unter 80kg
• Spanisch: ich will nach der Reise wie ein Gaucho klingen
• Viele Begegnungen, vielleicht neue Freundschaften, eine neue Liebe

At the last supper with friends, colleagues and boss came the question: what are your expectations?

Here is my list:

• Kiting
• Kiting with hydrofoil 
• Surfing
• Wakeboarding low priority just to stay in training.
• Golf, as often as possible
• Yoga!
• A healthy lifestyle, and a returning weight of 80kg
• My Spanish should be impeccable when I return, sounding like a real Gaucho
• Lots of Adventures, maybe new friendships and maybe even a new love

Nachdem die Precious Ace für 6 Tage vom Radar verschwunden war, ist sie jetzt vor Santos wieder aufgetaucht.

Die letzten Tage haben wir endlose Emails hin und her geschickt, wegen der umständlichen und teuren Abwicklung in Argentinien.

Der Transport mit dem Schiff hat €1822 gekostet, für die Abwicklung in Zarate durch den Spediteur 1240$ (Original Angebot):

Dies beinhaltet nicht die Kopien der Originaldokumente, man kann sie zwar vorab kopieren, braucht aber auch eine Kopie der Passseite mit dem Einreisestempel von Argentinien. Diese eine Kopie kann nicht im Büro des Spediteurs gemacht werden, Copyshop wäre aber in der Nähe.

Nachdem ich das Geld überwiesen hatte, wollten die nochmals 45$ für einen Kurier der das B/L Dokument von Zarate  nach Buenos Aires bringt.

Es kamen widersprüchliche Argumente, und so habe ich den Spediteur  in Form von Emails dafür arbeiten lassen. Nach etwa 20 Emails, immer auch Seabridge und die offiziellen Agenturen auf Kopie, habe ich dem Ganzen ein Ende bereitet.

Ich habe meine Meinung über deren Kundenpflege deutlich zum Ausdruck gebracht!

Seabridge aufgefordert, die Zusammenarbeit kundenfreundlicher zu gestalten oder den Spediteur zu wechseln, und mir ein Auto für alle anfallenden Kurierdienste gemietet.

So komme ich dann auch besser zur Wakeboardanlage in Zarate!

After disappearing for six days, Precious has reappeared in Santos. 

In the last few days, countless emails have been sent back and forth concerning the inconvenient and very expensive processing that has to be done with Emmazwo in Argentina. 

The transport on the ship cost 1822€, and now the processing of Emmazwos arrival through the agent in Argentina is costing 1240$ (around 1000€). This was the original offer:

This does not include the copies of the original documents, you can copy them in advance, but you also need a copy of the passport page with the entry stamp for Argentina. However, this copy can not be made in the carriers office, but in another shop close by. After I transferred the money to get the copy and all things in order, they wanted another 45$ just to courier the document from Zarate to Buenos Aires. This is when things went out of control.

Of course, contradictory emails came but I constantly emailed back, always putting Seabridgde and the original agents to work, trying to bring an end to this. I expressed my disappointment over the customer service and even advised Seabridgde to make the work more customer friendly or to smartly change to another agent. A car will be rented for all incoming courier services, and it’ll make it easier for me to go wakeboarding!

Geschafft!

Quer durch Europa (Tschechien, Österreich, Deutschland, Belgien) gefräst um pünktlich am Freitag, 21.9. morgens um 10:00 Uhr Emmazwo zur Verschiffung nach Argentinien abzugeben.

Der Hafen in Seebrügge ist riesig, aber dank der guten Vorbereitung und der detailierten Beschreibung des Abgabeortes durch Seabridge ist die Abfertigung relativ einfach. Gewöhnungsbedürftig ist aber das Abstellen des vollbeladenen Wohnmobils mit meinem Hab und Gut für die große Reise auf einem Hafengelände, dann Schlüssel auf den Beifahrersitz und weg.

Vertrauen, dass alles heil und vollständig im Zielhafen landet ist notwendig!

Meine Nichte Kimi, die mit mir Emmazwo nach Seebrügge gebracht hat, ist für die Frachtaufkleber verantwortlich (see placement: african style).

Hier noch ein ganz spezieller Dank an Susanne, die für mich schon immer den ganzen ungeliebten Schreibkram macht. Unbezahlbar!

Und sich für die Reise für mich auch noch mit deutschen Versicherungen (Allianz!) beschäftigten musste, die ihre argentinische Versicherung in Pesos auf ein amerikanisches Konto bezahlt haben möchten. Globalisierung!

Da dieser Blog nunnicht mehr nur von Freunden und Familie gelesen wird, folge ich gerne der Aufforderung, mich Euch vorzustellen.

Ich heiße Klaus, bin gebürtiger Österreicher, 58  Jahre und wohne in Bayern.Ich bin schon mein ganzes Leben lang gerne gereist und nunnach Scheidung und der Überwindung einer schweren Krankheit, habe ich meinen Arbeitgeber massiv, d.h. sanft aber mit Nachdruck überredet, mir 4 Monate Sabbatical zu gewähren.

Also fliege ich nun am 13.10. von München nach Buenos Aires, zurück geht’s von dort nach Deutschland wieder am 14. Februar 2019.

Done!

Travelling straight through Europe (Czech, Austria, Germany and Belgium) to make sure that we arrive in time to handover Emmazwo to be shipped off to Argentina! On Friday the 21.9 at 10;00, we did exactly that.

The harbour in Zeebrugge is huge, but thank the perfectly organised handoff, it was relatively easy to navigate our way through Zeebrugge and the harbour. The hardest part was leaving the car, fully packed with everything I will need in South America, unlocked parked by the harbour, with the key on the passenger seat!!! I guess you just have to trust that the arrival of Emmazwo will be as good as the handoff.

My niece Kimi, who drove with me to Zeebrugge, is responsible for the

placement of the paper in the window (see placement: African style)

A big thank you to Susanne who has been doing all the unloved paperwork, and for handling a German Travel Insurance for me (Allianz), that the Argentinean insurance in Pesos will now pay onto an American Account. Globalisation!

Since this blog is no longer only being read by friends and family, I thought I would tell you a little bit about myself.

My name is Klaus and I am a 58 year old born Austrian, now living in Bayern. I’ve loved travelling my whole life and now after a divorce and surviving a serious illness, I’ve persuaded my boss (nicely, but with a bit of force!) to give me a 4 month sabbatical.

So on the 13th of October, I’ll fly from Munich to Buenos Aires, and I’ll be back on the 14th of February 2019.

Die letzte Woche „war“ – und die nächsten 2 „werden“ etwas hektisch, der Abschied hat begonnen:

eine letzte Bergtour mit Sabine, Erika, Elmar und Stefan. Danke an Sabine für den Medikamentenkoffer und die handschriftlichen Instruktionen. Ich hoffe, ich bringe ihn unbenutzt wieder!

Schiffstermin steht fest, es geht mit der Precious ACE von Zeebrügge/Belgien nach Zarate/Argentinien. Leider wurde die Abfahrt um 4 Tage vorverlegt, eine Abgabe des Wohnmobils ist nur bis Freitag 10:00 Uhr möglich. Und so werde ich wohl am 19.9.2018 einige Kilometer fressen müssen um von Tschechien über Salzburg nach München zu fahren, dort dann EmmaZwo abzuholen und nach Belgien zu bringen.

Dank Michl ist aber die Autoelektrik jetzt auch fertig, die Solarpanels laden. Auch an Markus herzlichen Dank für die Emmazwoaufkleber. Jetzt muss noch alles verpackt und verzurrt werden und los geht’s.

An dieser Stelle einen großen Dank an meine Nichte Kim, die sich um den Blog kümmert, ihn redaktionell bearbeitet und in schönes Südafrika-Englisch übersetzt. Sie wird mir helfen, EmmaZwo rechtzeitig in Zebrügge abzuliefern.

This past week and the next 2 are going to be somewhat hectic, it’s the beginning of the end.

One last trip into the mountains with Sabine, Erika, Elmar and Stefan. Thank you again Sabine for the first aid kit filled with medication and handwritten instructions. I hope I bring it back untouched!

Emmazwo’s shipping departure has been booked with the Precious ACE from Zeebrugge to Zarate/Argentinien. Unfortunately the departure was advanced by 4 days, Emmazwo will be handed over on Friday at 10:00. And so, I’ll be on the road for quite a while since I’ll be on my way from Czech, through Salzburg to Munich. In Munich, I’ll pick up Emmazwo and make my way to Belgium.

Thank you Michl for finishing the electrics on the van, the solar-panels are even busy charging. Also, thank you Markus for stickers that are now on Emmazwo, she’s been Baptised! Now for the packing and last minute touches, and off we go!

At this point, a big thank you to my niece Kim, who’s working on the blog, translating everything into a nice, South African English. She’s also helping me drop Emmazwo off in Belgium. Thank you Friederike for the flights and the German blog.

So circa 6 Wochen vor Beginn meiner Reise durch das südliche Südamerika (ConoSur) starte ich meinen blog.
Ich  werde mit EmmaZwo,meinem Wohnmobil reisen. Geplant sind 4 Monate und Beginn ist Mitte Oktober.

Nachdem die Fahrzeugtechnik überholt ist, neue Bremsen, neue Zahnriemen etc.
baue ich gerade eine Solaranlage mit Lithium Batterie ein. Emmazwo wird am 24 September von Zeebrugge, Belgien starten, und kommt am 15 Oktober in Zarate, BuenosAires an- ich auch.

With around 6 weeks to go until my travels through the Southern Cone of South America (ConoSur) begin, I’ve decided to start my blog. I’ve planned a four month travel through ConoSur with my CamperVan/Motorhome, Emmazwo, starting middle October.
I’m busy with Emmazwo’s finishing touches, new breaks, cambelt and building in solar-facilities which will have a lithium battery. Emmazwo is scheduled to be shipped to Zarate, Buenos Aires on the 24th of September. Her arrival will be the same as mine, the 15th of October.
